The Kennedy Band Program
Band Levels
Kennedy has a fun and exciting music program that includes three levels of band. Students choose an instrument, learn how to read music, develop discipline and self confidence, experience many styles of music and learn history and theory. Students also have a great time sharing music with their friends and performing for their families and the community throughout the year.
Beginning Band: Students will be introduced to all of the band instruments, get to try them, and choose their favorite to play for the year. Students don't need any previous music background to succeed in this class as we will learn to read notes and rhythms together. We have many guest musicians come and help us learn the various instruments!
Intermediate Band: This is a full year blast of a class. Students will get to play pieces from all centuries and styles including Bach and Queen! Students will perform at least three night concerts, tour the elementary schools and perform at a Mall. The better the band gets the more fun it is! Prerequisite-Beginning Band.
Advanced Band: In this top group, the music gets more difficult and more enjoyable. Students will perform at least three night concerts; perform several times outside the school visit the U of O Music School and more. Prerequisite-Intermediate Band.
Instruments and Books
If you are renting a school instrument, please return the rental agreement and the maintenance fee of $50. This helps off-set the cost of repair and upkeep on our instruments.
If your student needs a scholarship for instrument rental or to purchase a book, please contact the school office.
The school sells reeds, valve oil and books. These supplies need to be paid for at the time of purchase.
Band Instruments Needed
Kennedy Band members are in need of your instruments. We have a record number of students playing in band this year (over 200!), and not enough instruments to go around. If you would like to donate an instrument to the Kennedy Band program, we would write you out a tax donation receipt and, we'd be forever grateful.
